Introduction to Biblical Hebrew I
Wednesday, 4 September, 2019 - Friday, 6 September, 2019
Reading the Old Testament in Hebrew provides a much stronger sense of the original culture and perspective of its writers and their communities. Such insights can help us to appreciate better not only the Old Testament text but also its pivotal role as ‘scripture’ for the 1st century Jewish communities from which the New Testament and the early church emerged.
Hebrew I and Hebrew II together form “An Introduction to Biblical Hebrew”. Hebrew I is designed for the complete beginner whilst Hebrew II takes the study a little further. Both courses are based on John Dobson’s popular tutor “Learn Biblical Hebrew”. Hebrew I covers the first seven chapters of Dobson. Having a copy of Dobson (2nd edition) is a pre-requisite for both courses, Anyone intending to take Hebrew II should ensure that they have covered Dobson as far as the end of chapter seven before attending the course. By the end of the two courses the student is ready to begin reading portions of the Old Testament with the help of a lexicon.
